Ambient music is a term that was first coined by Brian Eno in 1974 with the release of 'Music for Airports', the style being described in the notes of the album as being "as ignorable as it is interesting". The word derives from the latin word 'ambire', meaning 'to surround' or envelop listeners in mood music or a soundscape.
