Dubstep radio stations play a style of music with a heavy dance sound, notably incorporating fat wobbly synthetic basslines at 130-140bpm. Triplets are used heavily in the composition and syncopated (and often sparse) rhythm tracks that might be interpretted at half tempo. With roots in the Jamaican dub reggae scene, dubstep is an evolution of the UK's Drum'n'Bass/2-Step Garage House sound. First appearing in 2003, it has remained largely underground until the last couple of years. Now, it has grown to become arguably one of the most exciting movements in dance music for many years.
